I was talking to some "uncle" friend of mine yesterday, and we touched on many intellegent stuffs coupled with deep thinking thoughts. Well, anyway one of the topics was history. (surprised?) And we realised how bloody interested we are in history actually, which made us regret big time that we didn't take history in secondary school and now. And so we blamed... MOE.

If you think about it, this asian culture of education destroys PROPER education. We are always taught to study the things that are "important" and don't touch on the "useless" subjects. Stuffs that will make you like a success in society. Such subjects would be maths and your science subjects. Like no one gives a damn about humanities anymore as there isn't much "successful" profession in doing humanities for a living, for example archeologist. And having the conforming human nature in us, we conform to what society wants us to be.

But, education should be about studying your interest. What you would like to study, and something that sparks off your interest. Education should be fun and interactive, rather than dull and boring which is evident in at least 90% of us. This is why I diss the asian education culture, and envy the western education culture. In the west, students already have a choice to study what they want at a young age already. Moreover, they have fun filled lessons, promoting class participation and field trips for learning. In Singapore what do we have? Teacher talking non-stop, the classroom to be silent that even a pin drop can be heard. And field trips? Don't even think about it, the only field trips you get are during your holidays and not during lesson time.

Education aside, we touched on the topic of the 7 deadly sins, which are
Lust
Gluttony
Greed
Sloth
Wrath
Envy
Pride

Well, and we said that we are big time sinners because we have commited all of the 7 deadly sins before. But after some thought, we felt relieved because we see that everyone has also commited ALL of the 7 deadly sins. Well... If you say you haven't, think about it carefully...

Lust, it isn't about commiting adultery or rape to be considered lust. If you have lustful desires in your heart, you commited the sin already. Well, this applies more for guys and it is also scientifically proven that guys think about sex more than girls do, or rather most guys. (even the "mama" boys, which are believed to be more lustful than usual. You can't judge a book by its cover)

Gluttony, this is NOT being overweight eating loads of food. This is the over-indulgence of something. Well, there's something that everyone likes and we are always finding ourselves addicted to something. Thats gluttony.

Greed, I think that everyone has greed in their hearts. We are always wanting more and more, whether it is items, status or what not. And greed can be seen as the most dangerous sin of all. Look at what greed has done to this earth, wars, killing, terrorism etc. Not feeling satisfied and wanting more, that is greed.

Sloth, in other terms, laziness. Everyone has their lazy moments for we are just merely humans. And this is one important sin to resist because the actual meaning of sloth is failure to utilize one's talents and gifts. And because of this, many a times we are unable to work to our fullest potential. But this is usually conisdered one of the least serious sins.

Wrath, this is subjective. To a more patient person, he is able to curb this sin easier than someone who is impulsive or someone who bears hatred. And wrath is usually the most scary kind of sin because it causes violence, killings and to the worst point, genocide.

Envy, its very much like greed, for envy leads to greed. It is characterised as insatiable desire. Sometimes, we just find it very hard not to envy others when they are better off than us and envy cannot be seen easily through a person.

Pride, men often fall into the sin of pride. Everyone has an alter ego, the feeling of self worth inside you, but many a times we do not show it out. And even the failure to give compliments to others who deserve them is falling in the sin of pride.

I don't know why, but I just felt like blogging about such stuffs that make people think. So which deadly sin do you fall most into?
